MATURA's six designated counties each have an Outreach Center which offers a monthly Food Pantry for its residents in need.
Crisis Assistance
Crisis Assistance may be available to individuals or families who are in need of food, or help with utilities or rent. For information, contact the MATURA Outreach Center in the county where you reside.
Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
MATURA accepts LIHEAP applications for Adair, Adams, Madison, Ringgold, Taylor, and Union counties.
Application timelines for the upcoming 2026-2027 winter heating season:

October 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027: Households with someone age 60+, disabled individuals, or households in crisis

November 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027: All other households

If you have a disconnect notice or if you are at 30% or less on your deliverable fuel, or your furnace does not produce heat please call your local MATURA outreach office to see if there is anything we can do to assist your household.
The LIHEAP Energy Assistance program is designed to aid qualifying low-income Iowa households at or below 200% poverty in the payment of a portion of their residential heating costs for the winter heating season. LIHEAP is a one-time payment, and you do not need to be behind on your heating bill to apply for assistance.
LIHEAP is designed to encourage regular utility payments, promote energy awareness, and encourage reduction of energy usage through energy efficiency, client education, and weatherization.
Energy crisis intervention services also available through this program include:

Furnace Repair/replacement

Emergency propane delivery or reconnection to natural gas/electric services

Blankets
-
Heaters
-
Medically-necessary air conditioning

All provisions of the LIHEAP program, including payments, are subject to the availability of federal funds.
Weatherization
The MATURA Weatherization program works closely with LIHEAP to help families increase their comfort and decrease home energy usage and cost.
Applicants for weatherization are taken from LIHEAP clients and the most vulnerable populations are prioritized. Homes are evaluated by MATURA staff and private contractors are hired to undertake weatherization services on the home.
Weatherization services could include:

Insulation of attics, walls, and crawl spaces

Infiltration work such as caulking, sealing, and weather-stripping doors and windows

Furnace repair and replacement are also done on owner-occupied dwellings as needed
